Leutewitz Manor

In direct proximity (approx. 1km away) to Sornitz Castle stands Leutewitz Manor, whose knight's estate was considered a model agricultural enterprise throughout Saxony. The house was built in the 17th century. On the gable of the building, there was formerly an inscription by Hieronymus Friedrich von Nischwitz and the year 1623. In 1764, the Steiger family acquired the estate and made a name for themselves by breeding full-blood Merino sheep. In 1910, even the Saxon King Friedrich August III was a guest on the estate. In 1945, the estate was expropriated and continued as a state-owned seed breeding farm. In 1990, the operation was closed. In 1998, the construction company Raue acquired the knight's estate and renovated the buildings exemplarily.
