Peterskirche (Church)

St. Peter's Church is centrally located in the old town of Lobeda, part of the city of Jena in Thuringia.

Evidence suggests that there was a Santa Maria church in Kirchberg – today in Lobeda – in 967. In 1228, the predecessor building of St. Peter's Church was first mentioned in a document. It was destroyed during the Saxon Fratricidal War (1446–1451).

The reconstruction of the nave took place in 1489 and the Gothic choir around 1500. In 1556, the stone pulpit was installed. In 1749/50, the nave was vaulted. A general renovation of the church took place, including the installation of double galleries and an organ gallery for a Scherff organ. In 1868, the bell tower was walled, and in 1906, the church interior was restored. During the last renovation in 1965–1967, ceiling and wall paintings by an unknown master from 1490 were uncovered. In 1977, the Gotha organ builder Gerhard Böhm installed a new organ with four registers, one manual, and a pull-down pedal.
