In Erkrath, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rittergut Morp is a manor and estate house whose origins date back to the 12th century.
History+
The first documented mention of the estate occurred in 1144 under the name Morafa, indicating its original nature as a moated castle on the Düssel river. Rittergut Morp changed hands multiple times. Owners included the Vilich Abbey from 1144, Gertrud von Gerresheim in 1282, Knight Herrmann von Winkelhausen from 1410, and the Counts of Hatzfeld zu Weisweiler from 1703. A possible motte from the 9th century suggests an earlier settlement at the site, which was strategically located on the ancient trade route Mauspfad.

Today, Rittergut Morp is privately owned. The manor house is a protected monument and part of a complex featuring an adjoining park and a courtyard, which is now used commercially after renovations.
