History+
The Motterwitz manor was first mentioned in 1465 with the birth of Johannes von Staupitz. Staupitz was Martin Luther's teacher and confessor in 1505. The manor house was built in the 16th century on the walls of a previous building. Around 1900, the estate was owned by Clemens Striegler. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Today, the estate stands empty and is falling into disrepair.
