Oberburkau Manor

The village of Burkau near Pulsnitz stretches for 4 km along its main road. It was once divided into three manors: the knightly estates of Oberburkau, Niederburkau, and Kleinburkau. Kleinburkau did not exist for long, and so the estates in Niederburkau and Oberburkau prevailed.

The Oberburkau knightly estate was never expropriated, which is probably why it still stands in full splendor today. The driveway is lined by a small animal enclosure with a horse, a grumpy donkey, and two goats. The once simple Baroque building of the manor house was altered several times. For example, the mansard roof was converted into a gabled roof, and a stepped gable was added. In 1676, ownership passed to Johann Ernst von Staupitz, in 1710 to Gottlob Ernst von Staupitz, and later to Baron von Braun und Wartenberg. Since 1804, the house has been in bourgeois possession. The heir and current owner, Thomas Paufler, rents out and lives in the house.
