Oberg Manor

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1152, when Bishop Bernhard I of Hildesheim donated the tithe rights to the Bokel monastery near Wilsche. The stone tower of the place was destroyed as a result of the Herlingsberg War. The castle of the Lords of Oberg was destroyed around 1300 and then rebuilt. In 1392, however, the castle was finally destroyed. The last of the Oberg family, Anna von Oberg, married Chief Forester Hermann von Kalm, who also had a farm in Halchter. Kalm built a manor house on the site of the long-destroyed castle. This later came into the possession of the House of Uslar-Gleichen and then to Hugo Lessmann, who was also the builder of the Oberg Bismarck Tower. Today it is privately owned.
