Oberschaar Manor

History of the Manor House

Oberschaar is first mentioned in 1378. At this time, the Cathedral and the City Council of Freiberg are named as owners of the estate. They sold it in 1555 to the city judge Peter Alnpeck. In 1599, the property passed into the hands of Hans von Molsdorf zu Steinbach. He had the manor house built in 1606. The knight's estate remained in the family's possession until 1695. Afterwards, it was acquired by Freiberg's mayor Horn. In 1820, the estate was owned by a Ludwig family and then by Friedrich Gottlob Brendel. After 1856, Oberschaar was under the jurisdiction of the Freiberg District Court and from 1875, the Freiberg District Administration. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Subsequently, parts of the estate were demolished. After the reunification, the manor house was lovingly renovated and is now inhabited.
