Odenheim Manor

The history of Rittergut Odenheim began in 1122 with the founding of a Benedictine monastery near Odenheim by Bishop Bruno of Trier and Poppo III of Lauffen. This monastery, established on the Lauffen family estates and endowed, received imperial confirmation in its founding year. The complex, which included a monastery church and residential and economic buildings, was constructed by the same building lodge that also built Paulinzella Monastery. Around 1200, the monastery experienced its heyday and fostered Odenheim's economic prosperity. After the extinction of the Counts of Lauffen in 1219, the vogtei passed to the Staufer dynasty. From 1377, under Abbot Dieter von Helmstatt, the fortified expansion of the monastic complex began, which was equipped with a moat and defensive towers.
