Posteholz Manor

Posteholz is a manor house and a district of Aerzen. The small village of Posteholz is located above the manor house.

The builder of the estate was the Lippe Privy Councillor Arnold Ludwig von Post, who was enfeoffed with it in 1661 after Colonel Hermann Lothar von Post renounced his claim. As a result of excessive logging, Hanover had issued an order in 1678 to dispense with wooden fences, so an elaborate stone slab fence was erected. After the extinction of the Post family (Ludwig Dietrich von Post, 1762–1764), the property changed hands several times. In 1776, Jobst Gabriel von Wülfingen had the current manor house built and the garden laid out.

For two generations, it was inhabited by the Münchhausen family (Karl von Münchhausen, † November 21, 1841 in Hameln), from whom it was acquired in 1888 by the shipowner and captain Julius von Alten (∞ 1860 Auguste Caroline Reischauer from Hanover (1830–1883); ∞ 1885 Jenny Wilhelmine Frieda von Göben from Stade). He had the moats filled in. His son Siegfried, who took over in 1906, had a country road built. In 1943, Baron Siegfried Hanach von Alten († 2004) inherited the manor house.
