Pottschaplitz Manor

The first mention of Pottschapplitz as a fief dates back to 1559. The current manor house was shaped by Adam Gottlieb Zwirner, the town clerk of Bischofswerda, who acquired the estate in 1709. He commissioned a two-story Baroque building with two portals; the right portal bears the year 1717, his monogram AGZ, and a coat of arms he designed featuring a heron. After Zwirner's death in 1740, when he was mayor of Bischofswerda, his widow sold the manor in 1761. The property frequently changed hands, with approximately 50 mostly bourgeois owners and tenants succeeding one another. Documented ownership changes include 1890 to Dr. jur. Hans Otto and 1905 to Richard Max Schulze. After World War II, Rittergut Pottschapplitz was not affected by land reform but was incorporated into the Agricultural Production Cooperative (LPG). The Schulze family regained their property after the reunification but later sold the estate.
