Remeringhausen Manor

The origins of Rittergut Remeringhausen date back to the late 16th century. In 1565, Börries von Münchhausen, a bailiff from Lauenau, inherited a farmstead in Remeringhausen from his father-in-law Claus Büschen. His son, Ludolph von Münchhausen, known for his extensive library, transformed the farm into a self-managed estate. The estate gained the status and privileges of a knight's manor under Ludolph's son. Ludolph von Münchhausen married Anna von Bismarck in 1600 and had a Renaissance castle built in Remeringhausen, of which an annex still stands today. This was later replaced by a Baroque manor house, which remains to this day. The Rittergut stayed in the possession of the von Münchhausen family for over 500 years, even though the owners' name changed in the 20th century. In 1952, Eberhard von Breitenbuch, a resistance fighter, inherited the estate, which is now owned by his granddaughter Tania von Schöning.
