Sachsenfeld Manor

The origins of Rittergut Sachsenfeld date back to the pre-Reformation era, when it belonged to Grünhain Monastery. In 1559, Hans Schwarz, then mayor of Annaberg, acquired the estate from the Saxon Elector August. In the following decades, ownership changed frequently. Owners included Lucas Uthmann in 1569 and Junker Hans Hünerkopf from 1580, who commissioned the construction of a family crypt. From 1593, the estate belonged to the Klinger family, whose member Nikolaus Klinger contributed to the Beierfeld church and the expansion of the estate into a castle-like residence. His son-in-law Hans Rüdiger, who took over the estate in 1602, hosted the Saxon Duke Johann Georg here. After Rüdiger's death in 1630 and the destructions of the Thirty Years' War, the estate passed to Veit Dietrich Wagner in 1644, who later also founded Johanngeorgenstadt.
