Semmichau is located in a hollow between Bautzen and Bischofswerda. There was already a knight's seat here in the Middle Ages. The bishops of Meissen owned the surrounding lands, which fell to Electoral Saxony in 1559. Semmichau was connected to the Grosshänchen manor.
