Semmichau Manor

Semmichau is located in a hollow between Bautzen and Bischofswerda. There was already a knight's seat here in the Middle Ages. The bishops of Meissen owned the surrounding lands, which fell to Electoral Saxony in 1559. Semmichau was connected to the Grosshänchen manor. The noble owners changed frequently. In 1861, the estate was in the hands of Oskar von Zenker. The manor house was also built at this time. Around 1900, it was rebuilt and received the second upper floor and the decorative gable. Later, the manor passed into the possession of Karl Georg Leuthold, who owned it until his expropriation and expulsion by the communists in 1945. After that, apartments and a vocational school were housed in the building. Since 2003, the manor house has been owned by Dr. Johannes Richter. He breeds rare alpine newts in his cellar.
