Thale Manor

The manor house was built in 1812. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.

The manor house of Groß Siemen is a plastered brick building with two storeys and eleven window axes. The central projection on the garden side is particularly striking, crowned by a triangular gable. This gable is adorned with a relief depicting the coat of arms of the von Bassewitz family, the former owners.

The building underwent several alterations and extensions over the centuries. In 1870, a single-storey extension was added on the west side, which served as a conservatory. In 1910, the manor house was thoroughly renovated, and the interior was redesigned in parts. During this renovation, the impressive staircase in the hall was also installed, which is still preserved today.

After the expropriation in 1945, the manor house was initially used to accommodate refugees. Later, it served as a residential building for several families and also housed a village shop and a doctor's surgery. Due to a lack of maintenance, the building gradually fell into disrepair.

The manor house is surrounded by an extensive park, which was probably laid out in the 19th century. The park features a variety of old trees, including oaks, beeches, and linden trees. A small pond with an island is located in the western part of the park. The park was also neglected for a long time after 1945, but in recent years, efforts have been made to restore it.

After German reunification, the manor house was acquired by a private investor in 1998. The building was extensively renovated and restored between 2000 and 2005. Today, the manor house is used for residential purposes and also offers holiday apartments. The owners are committed to preserving the historical substance of the building and making it accessible to the public.

In the future, it is planned to further develop the park and make it more attractive for visitors. Cultural events, such as concerts and exhibitions, are also to be held regularly in the manor house and park. The manor house of Groß Siemen is an important testimony to the history of Mecklenburg and a valuable cultural monument.
