Theisewitz Manor

The first documented mention of Tyzawitz dates back to 1288, with the name suggesting Slavic roots and the settlement form indicating a Slavic layout. In the 14th century, the von Thusewitz family, vassals of the Prince-Bishopric of Meissen, were known as owners. A Heinrich von Thusewitz is mentioned in 1305, and in 1398, Jan von Theisewitz signed a document to donate the neighboring Brösgen to Altzella Monastery. He supported Jeschke von Dohna in the Dohna Feud against the Meissen Margrave, which led to the destruction of Theisewitz village between 1399 and 1401 and the disappearance of the family. In 1455, an outwork and a tavern, the later inn “Zum schönen Otto”, are mentioned. From 1606, a manor with manorial rights existed, described in 1794 as an official court with a brewery and distillery. The current manor house was built in 1904 on the foundations of a previous building.
