Waake Manor

The first documented mention of Waake as an estate belonging to the Marienkloster Hildesheim dates back to 1013. In the 12th century, it was part of the Duchy of Saxony before later passing to the Duchy of Brunswick-Lüneburg. In the 14th century, the Lords of Uslar mortgaged the village, with taxes also payable to the Lords of Plesse and the Landgrave of Hesse. A conflict arose in the 14th century with the city of Göttingen, which viewed Waake as a territorial stronghold and a threat. A letter of reconciliation from 1312 names Konemundus dictus de Hilckerode as the owner of the estate. In 1385, Bertold von Hildekerode is mentioned as his presumed successor.
