Gastendonk Manor

The first owners can be traced back to 1274. The manor changed hands several times over the centuries. These included the families von Graus, von Plönnies, and Remele, before Heinrich Windbergs bought it in 1881.

The current manor house was built between 1840 and 1842. On October 2, 1942, an air raid completely destroyed the residential building and the farm buildings. The owner Heinrich Windbergs, his youngest son Joseph, and a milker died in the attack. Even during the turmoil of war, widow Maria Windbergs, her only daughter Maria, and her future husband Leonhard began with the reconstruction. A more modern, larger farm complex was created with a listed residential building and square farm buildings, which were, however, adapted to the old style.
