Rochsburg Castle

The founding of Rochsburg Castle is presumed to be in the late 12th century, with its first documented mention dating back to 1195. In 1283, the Burgraves of Altenburg were named as vassals of the Wettin dynasty. Through marriage, the castle passed to Otto von Leisnig in 1329, whose descendant Albrecht II sold it to Heinrich, Lord of Gera, in 1448. After being pledged and subsequently returned to the Wettins, Rochsburg was briefly captured by Count von Hohnstein in 1467, but was retaken by Saxon electoral troops in 1469. From 1470, Hugold IV von Schleinitz initiated reconstruction, overseen by Arnold von Westfalen. Following a fire in 1503, the Brothers von Ende exchanged the Kriebstein lordship for Rochsburg.
