The Roman settlement of Cambodunum, today's Kempten, was one of the most important cities in the province of Raetia during the early and high imperial periods, and possibly its first capital before Augsburg. The city, whose origins date back to the reign of Emperor Tiberius, experienced a boom in the 1st century, favored by its location on important long-distance roads. The Roman Bath is part of a larger archaeological park that preserves the remains of this ancient metropolis.
