In Bad Kreuznach, Rhineland-Palatinate, visitors can explore the remains of a Roman palace villa. This ancient complex stands out significantly from ordinary rural villas in its size and amenities.

History+

The existence of this palace villa first became known in 1893 with the discovery of the so-called Gladiator Mosaic. In the 1950s, part of the area was affected by road construction. More extensive excavations, which took place from 1975 to 1980, uncovered a sprawling four-winged peristyle villa. This complex, built after the demolition of a previous structure in the second half of the 2nd century AD, covered an area of approximately 70 by 80 meters.
