Roman Village Güglingen

The history of the Roman presence in Güglingen dates back a long time. As early as 1841, the first Roman finds were discovered, initially attributed to a single manor. Between 1999 and 2005, excavations on an area of approximately 4.5 hectares uncovered over 30 houses, a public bath, and two Mithraea. It is estimated that the Vicus, whose Latin name is unknown, comprised a total of about 80 houses over an area of approximately ten hectares. The settlement, inhabited from about 120 to 250 AD, was located at an important crossroads and presumably served as an economic center for craftsmen and traders. In the mid-3rd century, the settlement was apparently systematically evacuated, and many buildings were set on fire. After the Roman withdrawal, Alamanni settled in the area around 270 AD.

The Roman settlement of Güglingen is located in the town of Güglingen in the district of Heilbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at an altitude of approximately 204 m above sea level.
