Near the French city of Autun is the Pyramide de Couhard, a Roman mausoleum. This ancient structure was once part of the Roman city of Augustodunum and is an example of Roman funerary architecture.
History+
The mausoleum, known as the Pyramide de Couhard, was built in the 2nd century and served as a burial site for the Roman city of Augustodunum. It is situated on the grounds of the former necropolis "Champ des Urnes," which lay outside the ancient city fortifications. Until the 16th century, the pyramid was still clad in white marble. This structure has been a protected monument since 1840.
