Roman Town Durnovaria

The roman village can be visited

Durnovaria, the Roman city known today as Dorchester, was a center during the Roman occupation of England. As the main settlement of the Celtic Durotriges, it evolved into a city with public buildings and a location on the River Frome, providing access to the sea.

History+

Durnovaria was developed into a Roman city during the Flavian period, characterized by a rectangular street grid and stone buildings that replaced earlier wooden structures in the second century. The city, approximately 500 by 500 meters in layout, featured a city wall constructed in the late second century and reinforced around 300 AD. An aqueduct supplied residents with water.
