Roman Streetpoint

The Roman Road Station in Friesenheim, in the Ortenau district of Baden-Württemberg, is an archaeological site with remains of a settlement along a Roman long-distance road.

The existence of this Roman road station is dated from the second half of the 1st century to the end of the 3rd century AD. Its discovery occurred by chance in 1970 from a train passing on the adjacent Rhine Valley Railway. The excavation work took place between 1973 and 1977. Not only were the Roman structures uncovered, but also traces of a late Hallstatt settlement as well as Celtic and Neolithic remains in the immediate vicinity.

The Roman Road Station is located in the municipality of Friesenheim in the Ortenau district, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, at an elevation of approximately 154 meters above sea level.
