Roman Villa Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler
The Roman Villa Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler, an archaeological site of great importance, is located on the outskirts of the town of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate. It is known for its centuries of changing use, ranging from the middle of the first century AD to the early Middle Ages, and boasts an excellent state of preservation of rare architectural details and wall paintings.
History+
Initially established as a Roman estate, a so-called Villa Rustica, the complex underwent several renovations and expansions over time. Around 259/60 AD, the property was systematically cleared. In late antiquity, the main building was repurposed as an inn (Mansio), which later housed an iron smelter. After its complete decay and the site being covered with rubble, an early medieval Christian cemetery was established there.

The Roman Villa is situated in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in the district of Ahrweiler, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, at an elevation of approx. 119 m above sea level. It is located on the northern slope of the climatically favorable Ahr Valley.
