Roman Villa Borg

After initial archaeological traces pointed to a Roman villa about 100 years ago, systematic excavations began in 1987. Based on the findings, a decision was made in 1994 to reconstruct the entire complex true to the original. Construction work spanned several years: the tavern and the villa bath were completed in 1997, followed by the manor house with its museum facilities and the inner courtyard in 1999. The third wing of the building, comprising living and economic areas, was completed in 2001, as was the gatehouse. Today, the manor house also serves as a regional museum for archaeological finds, with its furnishings and fittings designed according to ancient models. A Roman garden, created in 2000 as part of the “Gardens Without Borders” project, complements the complex.
