The Roman Villa Chedworth in Gloucestershire, England, is an approximately 1700-year-old complex, once one of the largest of its kind in England, with well-preserved mosaics and the remains of a bath system.
History+
Construction of the villa began in the early second century and continued into the fourth century. It was only discovered by chance in 1864 and subsequently excavated to be opened as an exhibition site to the public. In its heyday, the complex featured mosaics, particularly in the dining room, as well as a steam bath, a hot-air bath, and underfloor heating (hypocaustum).
