In Oberlunkhofen, in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland, lie the remains of a Roman Villa Rustica. This ancient complex, once a Roman estate, gives insight into Roman life and the early settlement of this region.

History+

The existence of these Roman ruins had long been known but was mistakenly interpreted as the remnants of a castle. Systematic excavations took place between 1897 and 1900, revealing the true nature of the site. Later, from 1979 to 1981, the bath complex of the villa was conserved. The parts uncovered so far include the main house and two outbuildings. The main house, built on a terrace with views of the Reuss Valley and the Alps, featured a portico with two corner risalits to the south.
