Roman Villa Rustica Mehring

The estate was built in the first half of the 2nd century AD. Originally, the building corresponded to the common Gallo-Roman villa type "Bollendorf" with a hall, two corner projections, and a portico. In the 3rd and 4th centuries AD, the villa was repeatedly expanded and rebuilt, growing into one of the largest manor houses in the Trier area. The furnishings with multicolored mosaics and marble cladding indicate the high social status of the owner. The site was already known in the 19th century, but it was only between 1983 and 1987 that the manor house was excavated, conserved, and partially reconstructed.
