Roman Villa Rustica Wurmlingen

The history of the Villa Rustica in Wurmlingen began around 100 AD with a timber-frame construction phase, during which the bathhouse was already built of stone. Between 160 and 180 AD, a redesign took place, with the main and farm buildings being rebuilt as stone structures. Between 190 and 210 AD, the main building was equipped with underfloor heating and a water connection. A fire around 220 to 240 AD destroyed the main building, after which the farm building was converted for residential purposes and a workshop was established. The bathhouse was also converted during this period and subsequently served as living quarters.
