Roman Villa Wachenheim

The complex was discovered in 1980 during land consolidation work in the vineyards. Traces of human settlement in this area date back to the Neolithic period. Roman use began around 20 AD with wooden buildings, which were expanded. The visible remains today largely date from the 3rd century AD. In the 5th century, the main building was destroyed by fire, but the settlement continued to exist on a reduced scale well into the 5th century, as evidenced by burials in the area of the granary.
