Roman Temple Martberg

Settlement on the Martberg dates back to the Neolithic period, but reached its peak in the Late La Tène period, when a Treverian oppidum was established here. This was fortified by a 3.2-kilometer-long post-slot wall and served as a central hub with trade relations, as evidenced by finds of Roman wine amphorae. The Martberg also held importance as a minting site. With Romanization, the settlement on the mountain was abandoned in the 1st century AD in favor of the Vicus Cardena on the Moselle. However, the sacred district on the mountain persisted and developed into a temple complex during the Roman era.
