History+
The first archaeological investigation of the watchtower took place in 1873 by John Clayton. Further excavations were carried out in 1930 by T. Hepple. The tower was subsequently conserved to preserve its remains. It is set into the wall of Hadrian's Wall and was an integral part of the Roman defense system.
