The remains of the roman Castle can be visited

The Roman fort of Betthorus, an ancient military installation, is located in modern-day Jordan. As part of the Limes Arabicus, it once served to secure the border.

History+

The site, a Roman legionary camp, was occupied by Legio IV Martia in the 4th century. Its strategic importance was affected by several earthquakes in 363, 505, and 551, which damaged the fort. Around the year 500, a church was built within its walls. Around 530, the stationing of Roman troops ended as the defense of the border was handed over to the Ghassanids. In the 1980s, Thomas S. Parker conducted excavations at this site.
