Roman Fort Heidenburg
The Roman fort Heidenburg, a former Roman fortification, is on the Kreimberg near Kreimbach-Kaulbach.
History+
Around 400 BC, Celts established a refuge castle with a ring wall at this location. Approximately 260 AD, this complex was transformed into a hill fort by the Romans. It served as protection against the Alemanni, and archaeological finds, particularly pottery, suggest its use until the 5th century. Excavations began in 1890, during which an observation tower was constructed from Roman spolia.

The Heidenburg fort is in the Heidenburg forests on the Kreimberg near Kreimbach-Kaulbach in the district of Kusel, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It lies at an elevation of approximately 399 m above sea level.

Today, remnants of the ring wall and the observation tower, later built from Roman spolia, are still preserved from the former Roman fortification.
