The Roman Fort Holzheimer Unterwald in Pohlheim is a former Roman border fort that was once part of the Upper Germanic Limes. As a preserved and partially reconstructed archaeological monument, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2005.

History+

The Wetterau region played a role in early Roman expansion attempts, serving as a staging area and being permanently occupied under Vespasian. Following Domitian's Chatti Wars (83–85 AD), the construction of the Limes began, which included the small fort of Holzheimer Unterwald. Originally consisting of simple clearings, the Limes was reinforced during the Trajanic period.
