History+
The fort's existence was not known from historical records until a significant amount of Roman pottery was discovered during earthworks in 1930. Archaeological investigations in the 1960s revealed three distinct periods of occupation. Around 60 AD, the fort initially served as a base for a legion and later for a cohort. The latter reduced the size of the complex before it was decommissioned. This second phase lasted approximately two decades. Over a century later, the fort was briefly re-used as a temporary fortification.
