The Roman Theatre of Durnovaria, also known as Maumbury Rings, is in Dorchester, England. Originally a Neolithic site, it was transformed into an amphitheater by the Romans.

History+

The origins of Maumbury Rings date back to the Neolithic period, when it served as a henge monument. Between 70 and 150 AD, the site was redeveloped by the Romans to serve as an amphitheater for the nearby town of Durnovaria. This transformation involved the removal of large quantities of earth, destroying the original Neolithic internal structures. In the third century AD, the theater saw renewed use, evidenced by pottery finds and coins.
