The Roman presence in Carmarthen began with the construction of a fort in 75. The settlement developed into a town, which was surrounded by a protective stone wall in the mid-2nd century. Excavations revealed structures such as a public bathhouse, the forum, a temple, a basilica, an amphitheater, and residential buildings, reflecting life in the Roman province of Britannia.
