The Rococo Palace Dornburg, the youngest of the three Dornburg palaces, is situated at an elevation of approximately 221 meters above the Saale Valley in Thuringia.

History+

The origins of the Rococo Palace date back to 1732, when Duke Ernst August of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach commissioned its construction. As part of his plans for a grand military review in the Saale Valley, inspired by August the Strong's Zeithain encampment, over 21 burgher houses were demolished. State architect Richter began the construction, but due to structural deficiencies, the initial design had to be dismantled. The Franconian master builder Gottfried Heinrich Krohne then rebuilt the current main residential building with its side pavilions by 1747.
