The Red Castle was built in the years before 1487 by Martin III. Geuder (1455–1532) "on Kunz Schäfer's inheritance". In 1487, Geuder promised the Imperial City of Nuremberg to sell his house, as it was "enclosed with ditches, fences and walls", only to a Nuremberg citizen.
