Alt-Ehrenfels Castle (Ruin)
The Alt-Ehrenfels ruin, also simply known as Ehrenfels, is a former hilltop castle at the exit of the Schweiftal valley.
History+
The construction of Alt-Ehrenfels Castle took place in the 13th century by the Lords of Ehrenfels, with an Anselm von Ehrenfels being mentioned in a document as early as 1257. Ownership passed to the Lords of Gundelfingen. Its use by robbers led to the castle's destruction in 1516 by troops from Zwiefalten Abbey.

The Alt-Ehrenfels ruin is located near Hayingen in the Reutlingen district, situated in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. It is at an elevation of approximately 606 meters above sea level.
On site+
From the former castle complex, the remains of a round keep, built on a shield wall and with a diameter of seven meters, are still preserved. Furthermore, minor traces of a neck ditch can be discerned. The ruin is accessible to visitors.
