The Alt-Laubenberg ruin, once known as Laubenburg, was the ancestral seat of the Lords of Laubenberg.

History+

Alt-Laubenberg, a hilltop castle, was likely constructed at the beginning of the 12th century by the Lords of Laubenberg, ministeriales of the Prince-Bishopric of Augsburg. Indirect mentions appear as early as 1165 with Erpus von Laubenberg and 1268 with Konrad von Laubenberg. The Laubenberg family also served the Augsburg bishops at Laubenbergerstein Castle and the Counts of Montfort at Rauhlaubenberg Castle. After the Laubenstein line died out in 1442, the Laubenberg of Laubenberg-Stein followed. Alt-Laubenberg Castle was destroyed in 1468 but rebuilt in 1469, only to be destroyed again by insurgents in the German Peasants' War in 1525.
