The ruin of Alte Burg in Dreis-Tiefenbach rises on a mountain spur above the Sieg Valley. Its history possibly dates back to Frankish times.
History+
The origins of Alte Burg are not fully clear, but a connection to a Frankish ring fort is suspected. The complex included a main castle measuring 20 by 10 meters and an outer bailey of 20 by 40 meters. A keep with a base of 11 by 7.8 meters and 1.8-meter-thick walls, as well as a well in the northeast corner, were also components. In 1910, an inn was built on the site. Archaeological excavations in 1929 yielded further insights into the castle's structure.

The ruin of Alte Burg is located in Dreis-Tiefenbach, a district of Netphen, in the Siegen-Wittgenstein district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It lies at an elevation of approx. 300 meters above sea level.
