The Altentierberg ruin on a spur of the Tierberg near Lautlingen offers an insight into medieval defensive architecture. This former spur castle, once the ancestral seat of the Lords of Tierberg, is now freely accessible in the Zollernalb district.

History+

The construction of Altentierberg Castle took place after 1150 by the Lords of Tierberg, who used it as their ancestral seat. The first documented mention of the complex dates back to 1216. In the 15th century, the castle was abandoned and had already fallen into significant disrepair before the Thirty Years' War. In 1927, the remaining parts of the castle were excavated by the church painter and castle researcher Konrad Albert Koch.
