Old Castle (Ruin) Bad Berneck

As early as 1168, Uodalrich II., a noble family, named themselves after Berneck, indicating an early aristocratic seat. However, this Walpotenburg was illegally built on Bamberg land and had to be taken as a fief from the Diocese of Bamberg in 1177. After the extinction of the Andechs-Meranians in 1248, ownership passed to the Orlamündes, who received it in 1260 through the Langenstadter Spruch. In 1338, Kunigunde von Orlamünde bequeathed her share to the Burgrave of Nuremberg, and in 1341, Podika also renounced her rights. The castle became a widow's residence for Elisabeth, the wife of Burgrave Johann, in 1357.
