The Auburg ruin, a former moated castle, stands in the Upper Palatinate district of Regensburg in Bavaria. Of the former complex, which was characterized by its pond-house structure, only sparse remains are visible today, including a desacralized castle chapel.

History+

The origins of the Auburg date back to the Lords of Aue, who erected the structure. The castle was first mentioned in a document in the first half of the 13th century. In 1430, it was referred to as a “new fortress.” A decisive event was its destruction by Swedish troops in 1634. The Auburg changed hands several times, including the Prince-Bishopric of Regensburg, the Molitor family, and later the Eberl family.
