In Eisenbach in the Miltenberg district of Bavaria, the Bacheburg ruin, once a medieval moated castle, is situated. Although only a few remains are visible today, this place tells a story of minor noble families, conflicts, and the changing times.

History+

Bacheburg was built around 1403 by Jorg Bache von Nuwenstat, a knight who named himself after his castle. It was likely the successor to an older hillfort and was constructed on ancestral property near the former church of Neustädter Hof. Jorg Bache was forced to pledge the castle as a fief to the Counts of Wertheim but secured his wife's rights to the building. Following disputes and financial difficulties, which also led to an ecclesiastical ban for Jorg, his sons attacked travelers.
