The Baldeck Ruin, also known as "Mörderschlössle" (Murderer's Castle), stands on a rock above the upper Ermstal valley in Baden-Württemberg. This former rock castle was once the seat of the Lords of Baldeck.

History+

Around the year 1250, the lower noble Lords of Baldeck, who were closely associated with the Counts of Urach, constructed this castle complex. As early as 1256, the castle was mentioned in documents created during a siege by Counts Rudolf of Tübingen, Ulrich of Württemberg, and Hartmann of Grüningen. It is believed that the castle fell victim to this siege and was abandoned in the first half of the 16th century. Around 1700, the ruin was likely demolished to prevent its continued use as a hideout for robbers.
