The Baldenstein Ruin, often also referred to as the Old Castle, stands on a rocky spur above the Fehlatal near Gammertingen. This hilltop castle was once the presumed ancestral seat of the Counts of Gammertingen.

History+

The construction of Baldenstein Castle is dated between 1050 and 1100, likely by the Counts of Gammertingen as their ancestral home. Around 1150, the complex fell victim to a fire, though not due to military conflict. Following this destruction, no reconstruction took place. The line of the Counts of Gammertingen died out between approximately 1170 and 1180.
